March 31, 2008: The University of Cincinnati chapters of the Americian Constitution Society and Federalist Society hosted a lively debate on the rights of enemy combatants, featuring Mark Denbeaux of Seton Hall Law School on behalf of the ACS, and Michael Lewis of Ohio Northern University on behalf of the Federalist Society. In a free-flowing debate moderated by University of Cincinnati School of Law Professor A. Christopher Bryant, Professors Denbeaux and Lewis discussed the territorial limits of habeas corpus rights, what constitutes an acceptable means of interrogation, and how best to structure our detention system for the post-9/11 world. The event was attended by approximately 30 students, who engaged with the guests through frequent and challenging questions. Both the ACS and Federalist chapters consider this one of their most successful events ever, and hope that it sets a blueprint for future cooperation.
