Philadelphia Lawyer Chapter Hosts "After Caperton: Judicial Elections and Ethics"
On Tuesday, October 13, 2009, approximately 30 lawyers and law students met for a lively talk about judicial elections, fundraising and the ethical problems that arise when campaign donors end up as parties before judges whose campaigns they supported. The discussion was led by Victor Kovner, Chair of The Fund for Modern Courts, Shira Goodman, Associate Director of Pennsylvanians for Modern Courts, and The Honorable James Gardner Colins, a former judge of Pennsylvania’s Commonwealth Court who recently entered private practice. The panel discussed proposals that would minimize the likelihood that campaign fundraising would affect the outcomes of cases involving campaign donors.
