Righting the Wrongs of the War on Terror

Seven years after that tragic day in September our nation continues to try to find a balance between our national security and individual liberty. With the election fast approaching we feel it is important to remember the challenges facing our basic civil liberties and fundamental human rights. More importantly we'd like to foster a dialogue on solutions to these problems.

On Oct. 6 (Monday) from 6-8pm at the Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law, in Room 424, Cadozo's American Constitution Society and Cardozo Students for Human Rights will be having a panel discussion followed by a Q&A session and a short reception. The panel is entitled, "Righting the Wrongs of the War on Terror." The panelists are:

Prof. Alex Reinert, Assistant Professor of Law at Cardozo and Counsel in the upcoming U.S. Supreme Court case Iqbal v. Ashcroft
Jamil Dakwar, Director of the ACLU's Human Rights Program and Co-Chair of ACS's Working Group on International Law and the Constitution

VP Debate Watch Party

The 2008 presidential election appears to be set for another close race with record voter turnout expected. To help promote an informed citizenry Cardozo ACS, along with the Cardozo Democrats and the Federalist Society, will be sponsoring a Vice President Debate Watch Party to see Gov. Sarah Palin and Sen. Joe Biden argue the issues that will challenge our nation for years to come.

Constitution Day Mixer

In the spirit of ACS in building new connections and connecting to new ideas, Cardozo, NYU, Fordham, and Columbia celebrated Constitution Day jointly this September 17th at Rudy's Bar and Grill. Celebrating the 21st Amendment was hopefully the first of many joint events held by the law student chapters of ACS in New York City.

The Right to Health Care Under the New York State Constitution?

On October 29, 2007, the Cardozo School of Law Student Chapter co-sponsored, with the Cardozo Democrats, a panel discussion on the right to health care under the New York State Constitution. The panel featured Kevin Hsu, Associate Counsel at The Opportunity Agenda, Rogan Kersh, Associate Professor of Public Service and Associate Dean for Academic Affairs at the Wagner School of Public Affairs at NYU, and a Representative from Metro New York Health Care for All Campaign.
