Nashville Chapter Kickoff - October 6, 2006

This Friday, October 6, 2006, members of the Nashville Lawyer Chapter of the American Constitution Society for Law and Policy (ACS) officially kicked off their chapter–the first of its kind of Tennessee– by hosting a reception and speaking program in conjunction with this weekend’s ACS National Conference on Constitutional Interpretation and Change at Vanderbilt University Law School.
“Everyone at ACS could not be more pleased with the outstanding chapter that our Nashville leaders have built," said ACS Executive Director Lisa Brown. “By bringing together the leading moderate and progressive lawyers in Middle Tennessee with bright, young lawyers and law students to debate and discuss law and policy, the Nashville Lawyer Chapter is playing a vital role in achieving ACS's mission of ensuring that the fundamental principles of human dignity, individual rights and liberties, genuine equality and access to justice enjoy their rightful, central place in American law.”
This reception featured remarks by William Marshall, former Deputy White House Counsel and Deputy Assistant to President Bill Clinton, and Lisa Brown, former Legal Counsel to Vice President Gore and current ACS Executive Director, among others. Many prominent members of the Nashville legal community were in attendance.
“As Tennessee’s first ACS Lawyer Chapter, we are incredibly proud to be part of an organization that works hard every day to connect, educate and invigorate individuals who care deeply about protecting our fundamental Constitutional rights,” said Nashville Lawyer Chapter President Sharmila Murthy. “We look forward to hosting a wide variety of events in Music City, and we are eager to involve people from all facets of our community.”
