ACS Press Briefing on Hein v. Freedom from Religion Foundation
On February 21, 2007, ACS hosted a national press briefing on Hein v. Freedom from Religion Foundation, a case the Supreme Court will hear on February 28 on bringing challenges to the White House’s Faith-Based Initiatives. Existing precedent in Flast v. Cohen says taxpayers have standing under the Establishment Clause to bring challenges. The Hein case focuses narrowly on whether taxpayers have standing when the Administration uses funds to pay for social services to be delivered by religious groups. The speakers are experts in the field of church-state matters, including several representing amici on both sides of the litigation. The panelists presented a variety of perspectives on the case and its broader implications.
