The Nashville Chapter Presents "Stealing Democracy"

Nashville Lawyer Chapter Overton8

Professor Overton speaking to members of the Nashville chapter.

On Thursday, December 7th, the Nashville Chapter of the American Constitution Society will host a luncheon with Spencer Overton, Associate Professor at The George Washington University Law School, at Waller, Lansden, Dortch and Davis, LLP.

Professor Overton, who is a leading national expert on voting rights and a member of the federal election commission co-chaired by President Jimmy Carter and Secretary James Baker, discussed his acclaimed new book, Stealing Democracy.

In Stealing Democracy, Professor Overton examines how incumbent politicians maintain their power through hundreds of bureaucratic hurdles that determine who votes and which votes are counted. Drawing from hundreds of real-life examples of voter disenfranchisement, he shows how seemingly insignificant practices channel political power and determine policies on war, schools, clean air, and other issues that shape our lives. He then offers vital suggestions on how to restore self-government and voter access.
