Second Annual Dinner Meeting, Presented by the Michigan Chapter
On January 19, 2008, the Michigan Chapter held its “Second Annual Dinner Meeting.” The Chapter presented the Milliken award to Congressman John Conyers, Jr. for his commitment to progressive causes and The Honorable Jessica R. Cooper, Immediate Past-President of the Michigan Chapter, was recognized for her role in founding and leading the Michigan Chapter. The highlight of the evening was the inspiring keynote address by U.S. Senator Carl Levin. The focus of Sen. Levin's speech was on how the abusive treatment of detainees undermines our national security. ACS Executive Director Lisa Brown and Michigan Chapter Board Members Michael L. Pitt, Michael K. Lee and Thomas J. Tallerico also offered remarks.
Over 200 people attended the evening's festivities and volunteer law students from local law schools helped ensure that the evening ran smoothly. Many judges, elected officials and other prominent members of the progressive legal community attended and all were invigorated to work towards the progressive ideals highlighted by Congressman Conyers and Senator Levin.
