ACS Chicago Lawyer Chapter Holds Its Third Annual Legal Legends Luncheon
On June 6, 2008, the ACS Chicago Lawyer Chapter held its third annual Legal Legends Luncheon at the University Club of Chicago. Each year, the luncheon honors legendary figures in the Chicago legal community whose careers have demonstrated exceptional merit as well as dedication to furthering progressive values and ensuring the rule of law is upheld in the nation’s courtrooms. This year the luncheon featured a keynote address by Lieutenant Governor Patrick Quinn and remarks from Senator Dick Durbin (D-IL). The 2008 Legal Legends included Judge James B. Moran of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois, Judge Illana D. Rovner of the U.S. Court of Appeals, Seventh Circuit, and attorneys Lowell E. Sachnoff (Partner, Reed Smith LLP) and Thomas P. Sullivan (Partner, Jenner & Block LLP). Notably, the event featured Colleen K. Connell, Executive Director of the American Civil Liberties Union of Illinois, as the first recipient of the Ruth Goldman Award, an award given in honor of a remarkable woman in the Chicago legal community who has made significant contributions to advance the status of women in the legal profession as well as the goals of ACS. The event, which drew a crowd of nearly 300 attendees, opened with timely remarks by Executive Director Lisa Brown on the organization’s vision as the nation moves forward into a new administration and featured introductions by Professor Geoffrey Stone of the University of Chicago. Jack Theis was the event chair, and the planning committee included Judge Peter Flynn, Amy Gardner, Ron Miller (a 2007 Chicago Legal Legend), Megan Pitz, Steve Sanders, Jamie Stevens and Barry Sullivan.
